Microsoft still has a couple cards to play in this game. If the PS3 takes until fall or later, 360 library will continue to grow. They will be releasing there HD DVD drive as an add on below market rate this year. I have read they are going to Hold Halo 3 until just before the PS3 launch to take some wind out of Sony's sales and they could also have a slight price reduction.

I owned a PS2 before I switched to Xbox and it was a good system. I now have 3 Xboxes and 1 360, (don't ask, Halo lan parties at my house) and for what I like to play it is just the better system. PS2 caters to more eastern tastes and has great games that tend to be aimed at a different audience. I happen to like dark themed games and first person shooters with multi-player capability. Both systems have had them but I have like the XBox versions much better and in my opinion had better multi-player options.

That does not even get into hardware modification possibilities.

Launch titles so far for the PS3:

# Vision GT - Polyphony Digital

I'd like to have seen a GTA at launch, as well as Gran Turismo, but probably because those are the only titles I'm dying to play.
Vision GT is the new Gran Turismo.

I'll definitely save up for the PS3 - with games like BLACK for the PS2, I can just imagine how good the PS3 can be. BTW, got black yesterday - even if you don't like fps, you love this - amazing game!

You can hardly count the 360 as released. Aside from the pre-Xmas shipment, how many have actually hit the market? It's been a trickle at best. Also, I have to constantly deal with my coworker's complaining that there still aren't any new games, and the best that are out there were stripped of features to get 'em to market quicker. To me the 360 is still in preview mode.
I agree. If I recall correctly, MS pushed up the release of the XBox 360 significantly to get the jump on Sony. The net result is few games, fewer good or exclusive games, and add-on modules you'll have to buy down the road. The 360 production costs may be ~$700, but that's without an included remote or high-def DVD capability, which the PS3 (at ~$900) will include when it releases.

The first units came with a remote. Mine has one, it was a promotional thing for pre-Christmas units I think. The high function programmable ones cost extra.

Depending on what MS charges for the HD-dvd, prices between the two units will be closer than they first appear.

I understand that blue ray can hold more data, but that the competing format of HD-DVD will be cheaper. I wonder which will come to market first and which will win out. Superior products have gone down the tubes before just due to bad marketing and timing, but blue ray should dominate Japan only because the PS's are so popular there.

As a consumer, and one who usually is first in line to purchase new technology, I am getting a little tired of a new format every few years. I am not in any way dissatisfied with current 480p dvd for movies, and the next generation is going to have to blow most people away before they start scrapping $30 DVD players for new ones costing hundreds.

Does the X360 play XBox games? Does the PS3 play PS and PS2 games? I read the PS3 supports 1080i definition - not sure about the X360 though. I'm interested in being able to play my legacy games on a new system too.

My best friend has the XBOX 360 and brought it over to play it on my SONY RP LCD last Friday night. Yes, it does play in 1080i. Call of Duty and NFS looks good in HD. From what I know, the 360 is backwards compatible with some XBOX games but not all. Supposely one of SONY's many goals with the PS3 is to make it backwards compatible with all PS1 and PS2 games.

I really had hoped that the PS3 would be released this year. This is very bad news for SONY and very good news for Microsoft. The PS3 better be that much better than the XBOX 360 if SONY is going to delay it for another year.
the only thing its got over the xbox is bluray and the cell chip which when really broken down isnt really that much better than the 3 core power pc chip in the the 360. Also the 360 has a total system bandwidth of 250gb compared to the 25gb of the ps3

XBox Live is a killer too. I know Sony is talking about taking that on but it is vaporware in the face of an awesome in-place system.
