Watch out for this production bound dodge truck!
I see we'll continue to disagree. At least on everything except that I agree "who needs it?" I say that everytime I have to follow a Ford Excursion.
If you put giant air balloons (hmm, external airbags) on the front of your S2K it could also be safer for pedestrians you MIGHT hit. Same line of reasoning as saying 5,000 pounds is too much because of the damage it MIGHT inflict. You can buy a 1,500 lb car today. Won't that cause less damage plowing into other vehicles than our 2,800 lb cars? Maybe we shouldn't be allowed to buy 2,800 lb cars. Why do you think 5,000 lbs is too much?
By the way, isn't kinetic energy proportional to mass but also proportional to velocity squared? That means if the Gov't puts a speed limiter on your S2K to, say, 50 MPH you'd have an awesomely safer vehicle?
Sorry, I don't want more laws saying what I can or can't do. There's plenty of absurd and poorly enforced laws now. And things are hard enough for auto mfr's without having to add yet more design restrictions.

As you can probably see, the SUV thing is a bit of a pet peeve of mine
