Watch/Time Piece enthusiasts out there?
I agree Seikos are reliable, but here is why I prefer the Tissots since the prices are comprable:
- ETA Swiss movements are better together, easier to maintain as far as cleaning and overhaul, and generally have longer battery life
- Gaskets in many of the Seikos are poor and become overstretched
- For the same price, you get a scratch proof crystal, and end of life battery feature
However Seiko does have its upsides on Tissot:
- longer warranty 5 year versus 1 year
- maintenance is cheaper i.e. battery changes, cleaning and overhaul, parts

Great info guys. Thanks too much. I've gotten it down to a Seiko Tachymeter or a certain Tissot model. I'm leaning towards the Tissot at this moment.
On a side note: How are the Raymond Weil W1 Chronos? I hear the Raymond's are fairly durable watches, but how about matinence/reliability and such?

I'd get a Seiko, I've had one for 18 years, and it works better then my other watches that cost 10 times as much
Hamilton. Swiss guts, come as handwind, auto, or quartz, sapphire crystal, and has a longer, richer heritage than Seiko (which started out making knock-offs and fakes). Hamilton supplied US military field watches since WW2, and still sells them. Tissot isn't bad, either, but I don't know if they have any auto models in your price range. Autos are teh awesomest
since you never have to buy a battery again, and with proper care, will out-last you and your family. Might as well get one if you are spending a few bills, I figure.
I have a Nixon and a Fossil, and both are damn near bomb-proof, worth the money for a quartz watch. Fossil has an 11 year warrantee, IIRC, which is nice.
Titoni, Fortis, and Mido also make excellent daily beaters, but they can get pricey.

Throw a vote down for bulova, i own two and love them! I've had the first for about 3-4 years now and love the thing, just got another one last december since i wanted one with a leather strap and just love the quality, and very simplistic classy design bulova provides...

I have a Tissot as an every day watch for the past 5 years. I just changed the first battery this year. I also have Swatch, Dunhill, Ebel, Fossel, and ESQ. Dunhill and Tissot are the best out of my collection.
