Wearing braces as an adult
I had just got my braces put on 3 months ago. Its more of an inconvenience than anything. I got the ceramic brackets instead of the normal metal brackets. Its a lot less noticeable and I like to smile a lot. Close friends and relative would give me a "oooooo" "ahhh" "you got braces" reaction when they first notice it but no one really gives me a hard time.
It's not like you should be insecure about it but if you think you will be I suggest you shell out the extra money for the ceramic brackets. There will be food that you have to give up but I find it harder to eat now that I got 4 extractions out which sucks.
Total cost of mine is $4200, $500 of which was due to the more expensive ceramic brackets. Good luck.

If Tom wears it, it's good enough for everyone else.
I bet your wife prohibits you from going down on her, right Raj?

i had Invisalign. NOTHING like "invisible" braces, which are actually VERY visible, and look like buildup on your teeth...
any questions, PM me.
it's basically $4,000 for your retainers and all checkups (depends on your dentist). they take a mold of your teeth, send it to Invisalign somewhere in California (i think) and they send back a crapload of retainers. Each one moves your teeth just a little bit and you move on to the next retainer every two weeks, until you're on the final retainer which is the final position of your teeth (as perfect as they can get your teeth). since it moves your teeth in stages, it hurts for maybe 20 minutes (and not even that bad at all) then it feels normal. it's nothing like regular braces that kill the shit out of your mouth for 2 months and cuts the insides of your mouth so that you live off soup and potatoes. i had regular braces in 8th and 9th grades, and then i got them taken off and had Invisalign for 10th grade. by the end of the Invisalign, my teeth were perfect.
it is 100% removable. you should wear your retainers as much as possible, but you don't NEED to 100% of the day like regular braces. you eat and drink like NORMAL, and it doesn't damage your mouth at all. it really is VERY hard to notice you're wearing them too.
don't make the mistake of going with regular braces. they will dominate you for at LEAST two months, and you will look funny. and it's permanent until your treatment is over.
