It is actually ceremonial to feed the rats in some Hindu temples.
It's a different mentality, they aren't afraid of rats or find them repulsive like North Americans.
Whether it be the norm or religiously, devote Hindus in India (and America) find dead flesh utterly repulsive....think a slab of meat, chicken breast....

Jekyll, you are right...in a way. All living things have a soul in the religion. wantone..i've never heard of any such ceremony, (not to say that they don't exist).
