What is it about times square and cars?

You've got to realize that in NYC the money that it costs to afford a 360 or an M3 is mere chump-change to some people. It's as if you or I bought a coke and were expected to regard it with reverence as we consumed it. All things are relative, my friend, especially when you are rich!

There's a guy that drives/parks his yellow 355 spider in a garage near Battery Park everyday. . .

I used to think "how stupid!!"

But, then I realized (in most cases) if you can afford to own a 355, 360, 911 Turbo, etc. then you can also afford to repair/replace it if anything happens. . .

It like the guy in Texas that uses his Mclaren F1 as a daily driver (let R&T use the car for their test a few years ago). . . If you can afford a millon dollar car, you probably can afford to replace it. . .

Regardless, I'm STILL not going to be driving my S2K across the GWB anytime soon!!! That's why I still have the prelude

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- NYC is a safe place to drive your car. Traffic never gets over 45 MPH and it's almost always moving. Plus, a convertible has the best view of the tall buildings. Also, you meet more interesting people that all the homogenious drone bubbas that populate most of America.

It's the la-la-land zombie drivers in their Excursions on the west coast that scare me!

Actually, New Jersey is the most frightening place I've ever driven. Gravelly roads with no clear signage that charge 50 cent tolls every two mile through a wasteland of abandoned strip malls on endless one-way roads that never give you a goddam chance to turn around and flee back to pay the $6 toll to return to the sanctity and relative beauty of NYC.

<--- BTW, does anyone else think this smiley for sticking your tongue out sucks?

Sunchild,

I almost agree with with you. . . As a lifetime Jersey resident (27 years) and a guy that works in/commutes into Manhattan (5 years), I would characterize the driving conditions as follows. . .

Manhattan = relatively safe to drive (lots of one ways & lights). . .

Boroughs of Manhattan = Unsafe - especially when you mix in cabs, residents without insurance (or licenses) and visitors that don't know the roads. . .

South/Central New Jersey = relatively safe (no one drives there anyway )

Long Island = Relatively safe. Too Much Traffic, Not enough lanes

Northern New Jersey & Westchester/Orange/Putnam Counties = EXTREMELY UNSAFE! Too many drivers, too many SUVs, too many New Yorkers trying to find the Jersey malls, Too many New Jersey drivers trying to "get away to Upstate" without any idea where they're going. . .

And people wonder why our insurance is so high
