Default What can I do with someone's license plate #

So I was at home last night around midnight.. peeked out the window and saw some Asian guy hop out of a SUV and look into the passenger side of my car. He then gets back into his car and pulled out his phone/ pressed some numbers while looking at my plate and left after that. The guy drove around the block and comes right back so I ran downstairs, but he sees my gf looking out the window and bounces again.

Now, my gf jotted his license plate down, but what should I do after that? My car's just parked on the streets.

I'd start by calling the police and making a report.

If your police department is responsive they will probably go and talk to the guy and ask him what he was doing.

The result, he'll stay away, probably.

If he was thinking of doing somethng not too cool, he'll probably go for another target.

Call the cops. Might need to make a severe story, or else they will say "When something happens, call us"

Tell them you want to file criminal charges against them for trespassing. That way you can get the ball rolling.

since the guy wasn't breaking the law, I don't know why you think there's anything the police can do.

He has cause to be scared (what he can tell the cops)....someone who keeps looking at the car and running away when someone looks at him could be harrassment. Always better to act than react.

I can't see it being trespassing if the car is just parked on a public street. The guy's acting suspicious, that I don't doubt.

Did you guys forget what country you live in? This is the USA. You can press charges on anyone for any reason. If someone is staking out your car, you have every right to go to the police and file charges on harassment.

ummm...why am I in your signature quote? Are you trying to make me sound stupid or something? Taking one sentence out of a series of them would make readers understand it in an out of context way.

If you had looked at the link to the video, they tried to make it look like the photoshopped the hell out of the original pic. A lot of the photoshopping didn't look plausible by the way they were clicking away. It was just a big dramatization of what they could have done.

Hence, I'd appreciate it if you took it off.
