A Pashmina Scarf/Shawl....about 90 - 150 bucks. A very classy gift that you don't have to worry about SIZE! All the higher-end stores have them...and they are selling VERY well.

My mom has to be the toughest person to shop for. I'll be watching this thread for good ideas also.

Okay, I'll be serious.

If your mom has allergies, get her that cool Quadra ionic air filter from Sharper Image for $350 (ouch). It's great for a bedroom.

If your mom likes to decorate, start off by getting her one of those tabletop water fountain zen sculpture things. They can be cheap or really expensive, your choice. Then maybe get her some Bonsai trees and a good pair of shears. Then get a nice leaf blower. Wait, scratch that last one.

If your mom likes jewelry, get her a nice watch. Mom's love watches. (I reserve buying actual jewelry (rings, necklaces, bracelets) for more personal occasions like birthdays, anniversary's, etc.)

If your mom likes your Dad, give them a gift certificate for a nice restaurant they haven't been to. Or give them a 'photo shoot' gift certificate for a good Photographer in her area so your mom and dad can take a nice picture together.

If your mom likes you and your dad, buy them a Round-Trip ticket to visit you at their leisure during the coming year.

If all else fails, buy her QUAKE III ARENA, the ultimate game! Okay, that was weak. Sorry.

Check out the Homedics parafin wax dip thing. It is a big vat, of sorts, that you put parafin wax into it and chicks, mostly, I would assume, put their hands, feet and whatever else in there. It's supposed to be really soothing and softens the skin...

You can get it at any major dept. store...

Get her a large picture frame with individual pictures of yourself and close family members, mothers love that sort of thing.
