what to do in Maui?
Rent a stook and drive the "road to Hana". Go there at off peak hours because traffic on the weekends is rough. Talk about a twisty route. Haleakala crater is a must see. Make sure it's a clear day so you can see across the crater at the top. Those silver plants that grow on the top are cool too.
If you dive, I'd recomend Maui Dreams Dive shop in Kihei. They have great rental equipment and very reasonable prices. Talk to Brian, aside from being a fellow Alaskan, he's a great guy!

My wife and I went there on our honeymoon two years agao. Lots of things to do. The Road to Hana is fun, but drive a jeep. You'll thank me for it. If you're planning to go all the way around (you'll need the jeep anyway), leave early b/c it's a all day trip. Assuming you stop and the places along the way. Most gas stations carry a cassette tape which narrates the trip. Well worth the $5. At the Hana hotel, go to the bar and order a margarita with Li He Mui (I can't remember how to spell it, but it's pronounced "Lee He Moo-e"). Very delicious!
For lunch, we ate at Cheeseburger in Paradise twice it was so good. Lots of uniquie tropical drinks there too. Mako's is another lunch/dinner place which is really good. Get the Hula Pie! Very delicious. Huge too! Longhi's is another famous place in Lahaina that a must go. There are also lots of places to eat in Lahaina past the banyon tree. You'll see the shops signs if you keep driving past toward Wailiea. Sorry, I can't remember the name of the places.
There's good snorkeling up the road past the Ritz-Charlton. Keep driving til you see all the cars, you can't miss it! This is where most of the snorkeling caramaran go. Well, other than Molokini.
Speaking of the road, there's an exotic car rental company (Island Riders) on the island b/t Kannapali and Lahaina. I rented a Ferrari 348TS .. Very nice! I recommend the road up past the Ritz. Lots of curves. Be careful, b/c some are blind corners. I was about 2 feet (literally) from going under a pineapple truck! Scared the hell out of me. Anyways, past the Ritz you've got about a 5-10 mile stretch of road. I must have drove it 10 times (in the Ferrari!). Oh, one more thing, if you make a mistake and slide off the road, you're screwed. There's about a 100+ foot cliff drop-off on the ocean side! Ya, know in the movies, when they always cars driving on some ocean rode in CA. The road I'm talking about is just like that!
Have fun! ... I'm jealous
