What to do with unwanted cats (seriously)...
My mother in law is going away for the weekend and asked that we take care of the two cats.... (as in she doesn't want them at her house any more)....
Do i
a) - take them out in the woods and leave them... they already kill lots of mice, so they would probably survive?
b) - human society... costs $ and they will probably not get adopted...therefore...dead..
c) - burlap bag into the river - Joke.
HELP! I told her she will feel guilty no matter which choice i take.
thanks....

ps... how do you shrink them into those little jars for longevity?

I would put them to sleep. Unwanted cats are just that, unwanted. I think the humane socienty keeps them for a month and if nobody wants them, then they are put to sleep. I would go that route. It sucks, but that's life.
Try it out at the humane society. If you think that after close to one month that there is still no adoptors, take them back. Then release them to the woods, preferable if they have been spayed or neutered so that in the event they survive, they won't contribute to the overpopulation problem.
Give them a fighting chance at least. Do the humane thing.

Take 'em to a non-euthanizing shelter. I know that they're a dime-a-dozen around here so it shouldn't be too hard to find one around you. Not all shelters put animals down - and there are plenty of private shelters out there. I was even surprised to find out that my county (government)shelter doesn't even euthanize unless the animal is dangerous.
