Default at what dollar amount will the price of gas effect

both of my cars 97 M3 & 05 TSX use 92oct, and at 4.24/gal in my local area its finally at a point where im beginning to think about carpooling with my wife to work. both of the cars dont to TOO bad, i get about 19mpgs in the M3 and my wife gets about 23 out of the TSX. we both have shorter drives to work that dont involve the hwy, all side streets. both cars hold 17gals. $60+ to fill each car up. WTF.

for our family(just two) i think that once gas tops 4.35/gal is going to drastically effect my habits. driving less, drving in a way to maximize mpg's or in other words like a grandma.

so whats the price point where you start to consider alternatives to what we've become so used to?

The cost of gas going into my tank doesnt bother me too much. Its the cost of everything else around me going up due to expensive oil. i.e: groceries, heating & a/c costs, etc..

Somewhere in the $8-10/gal range. I drive my Fit 6 days a week and have a 3 mile commute. If I only went to work and back, I could use 1 gallon per week and a tank would last 2 months. The s2k on the other hand gets horrible mileage and sucks on long trips.

He was implying that the fuel in his car isn't what annoys him, it's the added fuel cost to everything else he consumes.

I agree with that, but your question was when will the price of gas bother me so much that i'll drive less. My answer is to that is...no price. or at least no price that we will see anytime soon. Even at $8/gal im paying less than people driving escalades or excursions.

I bought a 94 Corolla as a beater/daily driver. It gets over 30 mpg in the city. I'm not actually planning on driving any less though.
