The Freemasons .... Ah what a great pub! Just down the road from the Stonemasons!

Seriously, have a squint at http://freemasonry.org

I once found the little box containing a lodges apron on a council clean up. I guess someone was a mason and passed away. The family, not knowing it's significance chucked it out.

My father, who was/is a mason (I think it's a bit like circumcision, no going back) was very firm on the subject and returned it to it's lodge.

But everything I've learnt about freemasonry I learnt from books (The Brotherhood, Jack the Ripper stories etc) and movies (The men who would be kings).

My grandfather, one of the most honorable people I know, was a Mason. Because I know a lot about my grandfather's character and therefore think he's one of the greatest people I've ever know, I can assure you that there is nothing fishy about being a Freemason.

He didn't talk about being a part of this, but he never boasted about anything, ever. I found out about his involvement with the Masons when he died, the same time I found out about so many other unselfish, giving things that he had been a part of. I found his book from the Masonic Temple among his effects and have yet to return it to them, though I think this may be the stimulus I needed to get motivated to do so. Just for the record, I didn't read it; I knew when I picked it up that there are some things that shouldn't be disturbed, and out of respect for Granddad, I didn't go further than the first page.
