Take her up to Whistler for the weekend and spring for a nice hotel and dinner. Great drive up and Whistler has some great hotels and restaurants. You don't have to ski...just enjoy the town.

You can skip the drive and get a room at a top-notch hotel in Vancouver and make dinner reservations.

Westin in both towns would be great.

You can use the gym/pool/spa. Relaxing. It is win-win all around.

glues some cherioes to a peice of construction papper spelling out your love to her. or something cute or whatever means something between you and her. this will take care of the "thoughtfull" portion of the gift.
then have a follow up of a box of candy or something regular. a card with flowers and teddy bear, whatever. this takes care of the i'm-not-a-cheap-and-lazy-bastard-thats-why-your-gift-is-cereal-glued-to-paper portion of the gift.
um.. candy, card, flowers, and teddy bear don't screan I'm cheap and lazy?? Look hun, I bought you the most cliche gifts of all time, and I only spend $40.

Hotel seems like a great idea. I'll definitely look into it.

For Christmas I knew I had to budget what I was getting my fiance because a) I have to pay for the wedding, and b) I was going to do something bigger for Valentine's Day. So I got her a few small things, but still wanted to get her something else.

Now...as a guy...I was looking at this and thinking...she is going to look at me and think I am lazy and a jackass.

I went out and found a big glass...uhh...cookie jar. At least that is what it looked like. Then while I was at work, I cut up a bunch of little piece of construction paper. 366 to be exact. One for each day of the year. And on each piece of paper, I wrote a little note. Simple things like I love you and You are beautiful. And really only having about 10 - 15 sayings...i duplicated a few.

By far, the best gift I have given her. In her eyes anyway. Something about making it myself. I don't know. Anyway, she loved it.

I don't know if your girlfriend thinks the same way or not, but there is another option that has worked for me.
