this country is getting to panzy ass about stepping on peoples toes...this country was built on the principle of speaking your mind and being free and if you don't like it get the hell out cause we dont' need you.

stop complaining about everything and you might actually start enjoying life...no one would stop me from displaying my flag...over my dead body....where's this countries balls...stand up for yourselves....

i hate this don't offend people attitude...i offend everyone equally so it shows i'm not biased one way or the other =)

America is unique in all the world. Anyone from anywhere else in the world can come to America, and, after a little work, become an American. I couldn't go to France and eventually become a Frenchman, or to Germany and become a German; only in America.

Hey, never thought for a moment that you did. In fact, your expression was quite reasonable. It's just that -- when jingoistic sentiments become popular -- knuckleheads begin to believe that they are high-moraled when they commit violent acts.

Only one particular knucklehead comes to mind at the moment but Timothy McVeigh truly thought he was a hero and represented "the people." He hung out with a lot of people who would never have done what he did but spoke in a way that he interpreted to be supportive. And off he went...

Not that different, I think from our current problem. A number of these idiots think they are heroes.

No offense Trogan Horse! This is something that you have to find out and understand on your own. This isn't the place for a spiritual dicussion by request, let alone a political one. If you want to know then please ask me in a PM. I tell you though, keep your mind open and be prepared for the answers. I take no offense in your ignorance of christianity nor would I in anyone elses. Ask me, I'm not shy about it.

Cheers

Want to know what I think America's biggest flaw is?

/rant
Every single American thinks every other American is a frigging moron. They listen to these reports issued by the teacher's unions ("97.3% of Americans can't locate Uganda on a map!", "92.6% of Americans can't name Lincoln's Wife!", "87% of American college students score lower than French students on calculus exams!") and are convinced that every stranger should be in a home for the mentally challenged. The fact that the unions put out these doomsday reports to boost education spending and teachers salaries is ignored. The fact that the international comparisons are always all American students vs. the elite schools in foreign countries is also ignored. Hell, I would speak 3 languages if I lived in a small country surrounded by countries with other languages, too! It would be d*mned impossible not to pick up languages by osmosis.

How many times PER DAY do you see something posted on this board about how some other group of Americans is a bunch of idiots? "Only jingoistic idiots would buy a low-tech American V-8...Americans are so stupid that they think terrorists are sending the anthrax letters...Americans can't even make wine, it tastes piss...Americans all like piss-water beer"...all with the subtext that the writer is morally superior for having better taste/more political correctness/more intelligence than the victims of the slur. Of course, in every case it is an American making gross generalizations about people he doesn't know.

The part that really drives me insane is that all of this crap is reported in foreign newspapers as well. Why do the French have such absolute contempt for the U.S.? Maybe they believe the crap we publish about ourselves in the newspapers.

It's pretty d*mned amazing what 280million morons have managed to do in the last century.

/end-rant

Thank you for your time.

I have to say that I am really tired of all this "politically correct" nonsense we have gotten into the last few years. Why is it that people seem to understand their constitutional rights only when they apply to them. The right to free speech or freedom of religion means that everyone else has it, too. Just one example would be prayers in schools or moments of silence...I don't care what you call it.

I was brought up Catholic but have abandoned those beliefs. I suppose you could call me agnostic or whatever the preferred word is this week. Anyway, when I am with a group that wants to pray I don't get offended. I just don't participate. And that is my point here...if you don't want to participate...DON'T...but don't ruin things for those who do. This goes for everything. Like turn the channel if the TV show offends you or put down the book or magazine if you don't like what it says.

Common sense people...that's all we really need.

By the way, I'm just making a statement on the state of affairs that lead to the stories pointed out at the beginning of the thread...not flaming on anyone here or in particular.

That sounds somewhat condescending on your part. Like you have the knowledge and I don't. No offense taken, just pointing out how that statement is perceived by atheists. (Well, at least this one! Can't speak for everyone)

I tell you though, keep your mind open and be prepared for the answers.
That sounds like exactly what I would tell you. My mind is always open. Somebody shows up someday with some irrefutable reason I should become a Christian/Jew/Muslim/Buddhist I am there. Using God and/or the Bible to prove themselves is circular reasoning and not a valid method. "There is a God because the Bible says there is" or "Because my Pastor told me" holds no water.

Anyways, this thread has probably become too religious/political so I will now shut my yap and conclude with...

Lets go American Troops and kick some Al Queda ass!
