This is what hit us yesterday...
Tee hee. Tee hee.
The frame we're using is a hefty MFer, hence the 18hp V-twin was not powerful enough. It's definitely up to the task, and we're still gonna beef it up more with some 1-inch square tubing here and there. The suspension uses hydraulic dampers with external reservoirs from my mountain bikes. There are outboard Wilwood disc brakes all-around, so braking is also good-to-go.
We just need a proper gearbox.
I also have an alky 8hp Briggs & Stratton on a basic kart (no suspension, single disc brake, etc.). It tops out at around 75mph. I can't imagine what our new machine will be capable of.

Absolutely. With our current setup, our asses are about 2 inches off the ground. Just because we're using a golf kart frame doesn't mean anything. The thing has been stripped to the bare frame. (Very low CG.) And all unnecessary crap has been cut off (plasma cutter and sawz-all
). The suspension design is our own...
Come down and drive our cars or my kart. We're building the current one in College Station. (Whoop!)

Man, sounds more and more insane. I'm hoping to get move involved with the Formula MUN team at my university and get into the Formula SAE competition in Michegan this year or next year. The car has a Honda CBR 600 motor in a 350lb car.
Talk about fun. Oh, also with paddle shifters and perhaps we'll add forced induction this year, though restrictor plates won't really allow it to add much power.
You and your dad seriously have too much time on your hands.

I remember having to land in Gander as a kid, the TWA Constellation we were on had problems with the flaps and landing gear. One of the flight crew had to open up the floor by me and crank them down by hand.
