Its hard to tell how big it is. Can you hold something right next to it for size comparison? Pencil, remote, ruler....your hand?

 

We had them in South Carolina on our back porch. Some people referred to them as "writing spiders" and superstition was that if you saw your name written in the web you were going to die.

Some of them spanned 6 to 8 inches across the legs. Their webs are capable of capturing a hummingbird, also.

 

Yuck. Hedge clippers or a nine iron would take care of it real quick though.
