one thing I learned about my parents, is feel lucky that you have some that are willing to help you out in your trouble times. Many people don't have that, and I learned it's not something to take for granted.

I am lazy. No getting around it. My parents have to continuously bug me to stay on track. My attention span is nill. But when I actually go out and do something I enjoy, I have none of these problems. My advice is to use your time right now to go find things that you really enjoy doing. Who knows, maybe you'll find a new calling.

um, fear and money motivate me. Out of those fear much better. Infact I don't work all that well until stress is applied ... some survival instinct just kicks in and I work ... doesn't help much when u've waited a really long time to start though.

I can sympathize with your feeling ... I often wonder why the heck I'm throwing down money for tuition, that I'm not really getting anywhere, I can't get the things I want when I want them, since my industry (s/w) is getting cut, cleaned, and shipped overseas I don't have a really safe future. The last time I was unemployed it was for 5 months, and everyone always seems to be doing better than me financially, career wise.

And then I read posts about 17 year olds with 4 companies and 2 cars and I go uuuuuuuuugh =P

It's times like these I'm glad I have a lot of close friends and I know we are all in the same boat together ... and either I'll pull them all under with me or we'll all float ;P but no man is going to get left behind.

I'll echo cyber-x, cubicles suck, college rocked, would have been even better if classes hadn't gotten in the way and I hadn't been too shy.

I can't give you any advice really you know, because I don't know you and it's gotta be different for everyone anyhow, but fear and money motivate me and hope there's a lot of good fortunate right in front of you somewhere.

This is the secret of success (per my mentor):

1. Establish clear goals
2. Utilize all of your potentials and skills
3. Be consistent
4. Meet the needs of those around you (including your customers)
5. Utilize your resources (friends, family, co-workers, time, money, etc.)
6. Total commitment to your goals
7. Take full and complete actions for everything you do (no half-ass jobs)

What keeps me motivated is my competitive nature. To a point it gets disgusting, I'm almost obsessed with it.. even my friends aren't really my friends, but they just fuel my competitive nature, which keeps me focused and motivated. Sports wise, I gotta win by any means necessary, I hate losing too, which is a good motivational factor. Anything from academics to girls, if I have someone else pushing me for bigger and better things, I try to rise to the occassion. Also, it's kinda weird how the things you want most in life are the things that are unattainable.. some people say make realistic goals, you will always hear the word "think realistically" from your peers, but that, there's no goal that is unattainable with a little work...
