Default What made you decide your major for college?

Since we're sort of on the topic of college and majors, what made you guys decide what to major in? Was it the job opportunities? Something you enjoy/good at? Or..?

Right now, I'm stuck between psychology and economics/finance.. seems like I might enjoy psychology more but still deciding.

I started out in Engineering (68) but told the Dean of Engineering to go himself....that ended my engineering. I ended up going into Philosophy, Political Scienced, History, Psychology, and Sociology for majors but never got a degree. I have approximately 35 hours in each and some Graduate hours by permission of the instructors. I saw myself as a perpetual student, which wasn't to bad of a life at the time (71 to 77). I still haven't made a choice. Philosophy, Political Science and History would have most likely led to teaching positions, but in the world of academia it's publish or perish. I did not feel like being a writer of mostly unread manuscripts that would gather dust on University library shelves.

Went in as a chemistry and business major because the "opportunities" were good in those areas. Planned to give up theatre (my passion). Didn't take long for me to drop chemistry and go back to theatre. Finished with a degree in theatre and a second major in business.

I'm currently a grad student in advertising. Probably going back to theatre or possibly architecture somewhere down the road.

Went into college as a comp sci major, after 1 year, got bored, and changed into a Business Major. Finally going to graduate this spring in Finance. I chose Finance because it was the only Business major that I had interest in

i chose CIS because i didn't like extensive programming, but loved computers. chinese parents would ask their kids to do the following:

engineering
computer
law
medicine

anything else that don't have the potential to make money, don't even think about it.

During the Summer of 1974 I learned calculus by reading my dad's calculus text (I was 16 at the time). A math major seemed, well, natural. The business major was my dad's idea. (Interesting that I've gotten all of my jobs because of the math, not the business.)
