Well, "life," the word, means something that reacts to stimuli, exhibits growth, reproduces, and intakes raw materials and outputs waste matter. Most dictionaries have definitions for this word, you might try www.merriamwebster.com.

That's not very flattering to the most intelligent species in the universe!

I think our ego is the stumbling block to our ability to answer this question. As long as we think we are superior and set apart from all of creation we will never see that we are no more significant than anything else.
