Nothing much more than hang their heads in shame like the Russians, no doubt about that.

 

We are not the Russians. We are the only military that fights at night. Take a look at "The Next Wave" in this week's Time Magazine. page 50.

 

Perhaps that could be the Japanese contribution to the coalition- the proper way to display shame.

 

Personally I don't believe the USSR lost in Afghanistan. Their war was similar to our Vietnam experience but they did a better job then we did. We could have crushed North Vietnam but the military was bound by politics. The Soviets overran Afghanistan and inflicted over one million casualties while taking roughly 30,000 in the ten years they were there. They left the country when they realized it was not worth occupying anymore, not because they couldn't sustain the losses or continue the fight.Any country that could lose 20 million people in a war and still win is not going to be defeated by a bunch of thugs (even if they were well armed by the U.S. )


We won't lose to the Taliban, we are going to severely weaken them from the air, then let the NA mop them up. After that is done we will go after Bin-Ladin 100%.
