One of my biggest pet peeves is being charged for extras for a game that they already charged me $60 for. Granted, it costs tons of money to develop a game but at $60 a pop when it only takes less than $5 to manufacture them, they're making that money back pretty quick I'd imagine.
Microsoft is the worst about this, selling a game and then expansions for it and online maps that you have to buy to play online. I know they're not expensive it is still stupid to me.

If people bought games new, or if people would at least buy used from friends and craigslist instead of gamestop, we wouldn't have this problem.
plus if you really don't feel like spending the money, wait all of a year and the 'full gold whatever' edition will come out with all the downloadable stuff included

there's a simple reason they've been doing this. Gamestop realized that they could become a middle man for used games and make ridiculous profit off of it. The game studios are seeing all their $$ going to gamestop and are tired of it, so they're finding ways to bring that money back in house.

Granted Xbox has a much, much, much larger online community so I'm sure it costs more to run but most of it is hosted from console to console so I don't see any kind of massive server maintenance or anything justifying the costs that they "pass on" to gamers.
