What would you buy?
A car I would strongly urge you not to buy would be the Mazda 6. After having spent an hour behind the wheel of a loaded V6 5 speed, I'd hate to know how much worse the automatic would be.
Oh, consider a Nissan Maxima as well ('03 preferably, you could get a great deal on one)... they're awesome in an automatic. Very good car.

Family vehicle? Fun? I may be in the minority here, but I think the Infiniti FX 35/45s would be a nice family hauler. And reasonably fast to boot.
Welcom to Seattle, BTW.

Is that plate in your avitar for real! Too funny

I like the Infiniti FX 35, although it's too much like what I'm getting rid of. The real problem with the MB320 and the Infiniti in terms of getting small kids into is this: THe rear wheel well is so far forward that you always get dirty having to lean on the fender while positioning your offspring in the carseat. The rear doors do not open wide enough to get a straight shot at the back seat. A real pain in the butt (not to mention getting dirt on your butt).
In the wet weather, just can't see needing a heavy SUV. In Anchorage, the roads were 2 inches of ice for 4-5 months out of the year. In that weather, the heavy footprint and traction control were invaluable.
Cheers - (& thanks for the suggestion).
I'm going to suggest something really odd. I know you've got the Honda Mini van but why not take a look at the Nissan Quest SE. There's just something about that wierd looking thing that I like.
If you see anything from Subaru that you like other than the STi I can probably help you get one for $300 over dealer cost.
