I wouldn't pay more than $5.00 to get the better wash if I have to do it myself. They're opening new ones around here that have a drive through deal for 5-10 dollars (depending on options) and then a free vacuum station at the end.

Most convertible owners don't want to put their car through a drive-through wash. I know I'm happy to pay up to $10 for a self wash, and that 10 bucks typically gets me about 6-8 minutes of spray time. Sometimes I'll only put a couple bucks in, use it, sponge it, then a couple more bucks, and repeat.

I would look into tutoring, teachers are useally looking for extra work and if you can tutor a well you could cut down on some costs. If theres a college campus near you poost up a bunch of flyers im sure you could make some extra money. Tyr to save as much money as you can for like a year or so then maybe open a location. Im sure places like sylvan learning center started out in a similar way, a lot of students out there needhelp with work, and if theres a big enough demand im sure you would be able to make it work.

Beer delivery service, maybe you could even get some kick backs from some state organization because it keeps many drunks off the roads..

Has anybody else ever thought this would be an amazing idea? Yeah you'd have to hike up the retail a little bit but I don't know how many times I've (and friends) wished someone could deliver beer to your door.

By the way, I don't see vehicle self-wash bays as a replacement for professional washing and detailing services.

I go to them because I don't trust hand wash amateurs to touch my cars, I want a quick wash without having to pull out 20 different products, a hose, a bucket, etc etc etc, and don't have enough money to spend on pro services every time my car gets dirty.

Self washes aren't converting anyone who uses professional wash & detail services into self-washers, they simply provide a function to the majority of the population at a lower cost.
Have you tried this carwash http://www.thecarwash.ca/ There is one in Calgary and Regina. The Regina location is not open 24/7, but every time I drive by there is always 6-10 cars waiting to get in. You have to have the swipe card as you can put money on it like a Tim's card and saves you money as you get exact time/money used.

"Proof-reading/consulting for business memos going out to their clients"

If you can do that, I might have an idea for you.
PM me for detail.

Touche. I haven't had a convertible in years. I'm just going by those coin-opp washes we have here, which I don't remember being so much.

I know it's not replacing professional detailers... but again, you're entering a different niche market of those who are willing to pay $10 for a high-end place, and the majority will spend $6 for the gas station swirl-o-matics to do it for them, rather than the $10 on the self-wash, plus towels, plus time, etc etc etc.

I'm just saying it's not as plug-n-play is it may seem

this reminds me of a project from school. bascially the business was that the company/person would drive your car safetly home. kinda like a taxi.. so it would take two cars and two ppl, one would follow to the destination and have to be driven back, avoiding leaving a car to vandalism, tickets or tow.
