Sorry to hear about your cat. As a pet owner and someone who has spent a small fortune on his pets, I understand what you are going through. I had a cat I just had to put down back in January who had kidney problems since she was 11yrs old. We started taking her to the vet for fluids, and it really helped her. Each weekly trip to the vet's cost $15. After several treatments (which she responded very well to), we had the vet show my wife and I how to stick the needle in under her skin and administer the fluids ourselves. We could buy a bag of fluid and 10 needles for approximately $30 (the bag would last 10 weeks). I would hold the cat and my wife would insert the needle. The cat led a very good life for another 4 years until she finally suffered heart failure.

My wife and I would sell everything we own, including the S2k...the house... you name it to save our dog.

He is as much a part of the family as a human could be.

Animals are replaceable and have a fairly short life span. Unless it was a goose that shot out golden eggs my personal limit would be - 1K? Max. If it came down to adjusting my standard of living drastically (not being able to take out the Jet Skiis, no more "fun money", etc) - its out.

Do what you think is best for the animal and remember there are so many animals in need of adoption that would help you get through the mourning stage and move on. Check your local craigslist.

This is so hard to believe coming from someone who has a picture of himself in a romantic moment with his car in his sig.

I consider my pets a part of my family. I wouldn't balk at spending a few thousands dollars to save my pets life.

ou know about the disease they get in their spine. It basically causes paralysis. It is something to do with their long bodies and the way their back curves.
sometimes this get confused with arthritis.

treatment for arthritis is expensive none strydial drug, several good ones available. the paralysis is treated by an active steroid, one of choice is pred. where this drug is inexpensive it has many side effects. the side effects are a killer in them selves.

where everything is dirt its difficult to see them go.

This thread makes me sad. I love animals. My cat ran away back in 1994 and I was heartbroken. I can't imagine what some of you must have went through when you lost yours.
