What are your thoughts on the prelude?
I had a Type SH and LOVED it! It's a wonderful blend of daily driver practicality and loads of fun. Easily the best handling FWD car I've ever experienced, I bought it after swearing I'd never buy another FWD car...I decided to try a few alternatives when I had my heart set on a Gen 3 RX-7.
I like the S2000 better, but the Prelude is excellent nonetheless and makes a much better only car.

I was driving a '99 Prelude SH until February of this year when I bought my S2k. I loved it! However, I wished it was a bit quicker.
I would check out the new Acura RSX Type S if I was in the market for another car at it's price. It is quicker than the Prelude and features the latest Honda technology. Not saying I would go this way, but it's worth a look. Either way, you can't go wrong.

Heavy ... Heavy ... Too Heavy ... I'm talking about the 5th generation one. Compared as a FF car ... I would choose something else instead. Sorry to say, but the H22a is so undeveloped by Honda. Crappy redline for one, and VTEC can definitely be more powerful.
An F20c can pull almost 250 horsepower or somewhere around there anyway ... Imagine what a Honda tuned properly setup H22a can pull? Definitely more, heaps more considering the displacement is a vantage over anything else.

I currently have a 93 Prelude Si as a beater. I like everything about the car except fro the rear end, just like you said. But overall, the agressive flared out fenders and front, more than make up for the rear.

I thought the previous Prelude had a funny looking rear end mostly due to the tail lights.

I have a 99 PreludeSH right now and hoping to get a S2K soon. The 5th Gen Prelude has always been thought of as a car with a lot of potential. An in reality you can modify it and make it faster than a Stock S2K.
The 5th Gen is heaviER than Integras but as mentioned either in this forum or a Lude forum most of the weight went towards safety. Check out the doors. They're not light. As for the interior, it's not flashy but it's much more comfty and high quality than any Integras. The RSX however is intriguing and you might want to look into it. But for that car, either you like the dash or you don't. The plastic looks cheap after looking at it for awhile IMO.
Personally, I think you should get the Lude if money is not an issue. I mean if money is an issue and you're having a hard time choosing between two cars with that big of a price difference go with the cheaper one and pocket the cash. You shouldn't have to decide too much between getting a S2K or a Lude unless you're trying to justify paying extra for the S2K. If I wanted to spend S2K type money I wouldn't be looking at the Lude much. Lude is an excellent car no doubt but unless you really absolutely love the Lude there are obviously better cars out there for S2K type money.

Yeah, I considered the Prelude SH, but it just felt cheap, definitely not worth MSRP. I might have bought it for invoice or a little below. The interior is too bland, the S2 really sold me, I used to love Knight Rider!!
DJSang. The interior of the Lude is definately bland. Even though I think S2's interior is much better it's also considered bland so I hope it wasn't the interior that sold ya.
Actually I quite prefer blandness over something like IS300's interior/dash board.
As for the Lude being cheap, name some coupes that looks like it's worth more than the Lude. Same price of course.
Back then there's really nothing. Now it's really Celica, RSX/Integra, and Preludes. Most choose one of the 3 at least where I live (not exactly a good thing of course, I see more Ludes than I should be seeing and there's tons of Celicas and Integras out there).
