I'm in the situation where I need to buy a new cell phone plan & phone next week.

What's a cool phone to get these days?

I have two requirements:
1. I don't want a smart phone. While these are very cool, i'm not paying $30+ extra per month for the data plans.
2. I'd like to stay away from Motorola. I used to have a razr and that thing sucked a fat one. The hardware was cool, but the software was awful and I suspect all motorolas are using the same awful operating system.

Any ideas?

 

Also, a follow up question: is it better to get a service/phone from the actual provider's store? Or to go through amazon, wirefly, or one of those cellular giant stores?

wirefly always has great deals, but you have to keep nagging to get your rebate. mine took a year both times I bought from them.

 

i'm getting an apple iPhone! don't know anything about it... my friends convinced me. hah... i always have the shittiest most obsolete phones. as long as it calls people right?!

 

I want a iphone too, but $500-600 with a 2 year. I don't know. If they have a helmet cam accessory like the archos does, then I'd caught it up.

 

my friend just bought a nokia n95...it's got gps, radio, internet, 5.0 megapixel camera, etc...

 

The firmware is server-dependent. Verizon has their own firmware for teh RZR, which I think sucks hard. You can reprogram your phone to have motorola's own firmware, which is much much better.

Verizon puts the same retard firmware in a lot of phones, regardless of brand/style (save windows mobile phones). So stay away from verizon if you don't like it.

My rzr has been awesome besides the firmware.
