What's the story behind 5th Gear?
Ok, I remember Tiff being in Top Gear long ago. But now he's on 5th Gear with another group of nuts which includes a fat man, an uptight looking guy who's losing his hair, a chick that has a real deep and cracked voice that made Rod Stewart a fave among certain people...
So what happened? Was there a fallout? Why did Tiff pack up and go? What are the main differences between the 2 shows now?

as far as i know, they r on different channels. tiff needell, vicki butler henderson and jeremy clarkson were some of the originals on top gear. clarkson went his own way and they stayed with the show with a few other new faces. as is always the case in tv, they wanted more money, were unhappy with the format, blah, blah. hence they signed with a rival station and started 5th gear.
top gear resigned clarkson and in their first season with him, i felt it was kinda lacklustre in its format. u could see the show slowly change as each new episode was shown, obviously to cater to viewer complaints. 5th gear was a superior format imo, but i only caught a few espisodes.
vicki butler henderson actually owns a s2000 as her personal car and is one of the first woman to co-drive a winner in a major professional racing event.
i caught a few espisodes of fifth gearand they have a few top names in the motoring journalism scene, tom ford who wrote for car magazine was on it, he is the fat scruffy guy

cool! thanks for the info!
i've been watching 5th gear (thank God for TiVO!) and i feel that i like it better than top gear (the ones i get on the net), where the hosts congregate in some kind of...garage with a bunch of people that wooo and ahhh to their comments, and the dudes pin time slips on a board...

thats true as well, top gear has clarkson and co meet in the studio with the cars being tested and they have light hearted banter amongst each other and the audience.
the stig, a disguised "pro" driver takes the cars out on their test track to see what times it gets and they pin it on the leader board.
