I don't use them....I seem to get more attention by acting disinterested.

 

OK since I'm now happily married, I'll give up the goods:

A sure way to meet a woman at a pub-style bar is to sit at the bar reading a book. Hardback seems better than paperback and it helps for it to be a decent book (when she approaches you) so that it remains a conversation starter. Works every time but leaves you at the whim of the women.

For greater control (and if you want to make an approach) I've never found anything better than "Hi. I couldn't help but notice you. My name is Jim..." Constant eye contact is also required and it's better to just go ahead and walk up.

That is probably why I don't have a girlfriend. For some reason I have a hard time trying to talk to girls and that is why I dont try to hit on them. I tell my friends if they wanna meet me they will come to me. But like I said I don't have a g/f so my hypothesis is incorrect.
