When did YOU first access the internet?
At my dad's computer at the University of Calgary... 1990ish... on a HIGH SPEED 9600 baud modem
the blazing speed... and the first thing I accessed on the net was some guys 20 page long recount of a role-playing Cyberpunk game
heheh the good ol days.... now I'm running on a cablemodem and playing games and all on the net

First exposure was in 1977 while in a grad school program at at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh. It was called DARPAnet back then. That year was also the first CRT based computer game I had ever seen. Star Wars and it ran on a pretty big mainframe.
And now to really date myself, first programming language learned was Fortran IV on an IBM 1130 computer in 1968.
(I will never grow up)

When I was at Uni, a couple of years before 'Mosaic' graphical browser was invented. Gopher and Telnet were the methods used for navigating the Net back then and it was neccessary to be familiar with the slight variances between the different flavours of Unix (when using Telnet). Navigating the Net by command line. What fun
'93 on my 486/33 and a 2400 baud modem with Lynx. Graphics are overrated.
You should hear the hardware engineers I work with. They still complain about the standard the the Ethernet cable borrowed.

i remember dialing into BBSes in the late 80s, but the first time i actually used the internet (for warezing on fsp/ftp/and misc bs on gopher) was the fall of 1992. first modem was 2400bps.
anyone remember the "bimodem" protocol from the bbs days? you could send a file to someone, receive a file, and have a chat at the same time... at 280 BYTES/second. lol.
