I found that by changing from where I depart from I could save some cash. I usually fly to Detroit out of El Paso, TX but I researched and found that if I got a plane in Albuquerque, NM I could save about $150. I live about 2 hrs away from El Paso but 3 hrs away from Albuquerque. I don't know if there would be a similar situation for you but its worth a shot.

i named my own price and put $450 for fun, and got it !

i got 2 redeye flights, but saved $150.

I use those to find the cheapest airline...then go to the airlines own site and book the flight. Those websites charge like $5 or $10 more for the ticket to make their money...so you can save a few more bucks by going straight to the source.

I would also think that priceline would probably work nice right about now. The number of people flying lately has dropped and I'm starting to see lots of open flights, so try naming your own price...

I know this is going to sound lame, but last time I flew to Hawaii, the travel agents had cheaper fares thern I could find on any website because some company had bought bulk tickets to offer with vacation packages to travel agents. Beat the online fare by $200.

Find you best fare online and see if an agent can beat it. It might be worth the 15 minutes extra time. Does not happen all the time, but might be worth the effort.
