Red face where do you check your credit? and how much

ive been to a few sites and they all want a fee every month..

i basically wanna check my report a few times in the next year and only spend maybe 40 maxfor it.

i was thinking.. of each time i want to check to just sign up on a site and check and then cancel (they have free for 30 days)... ive found numerous sites so far and used one (freecreditreport.com).. figured i could try 4 and do that.. but id rather do it a legitamate way.

where do you check your credit, and how much do you pay?

go to one of the bureaus' sites and request to have a credit fraud alert placed on your credit. the alert will be placed on the other 2 bureaus and you will get a detailed credit report instantly.

all for free.

Actually, each agency can charge you $10 to put the freeze on your account. But, it is less than $40!

Fraud alert is a credit freeze - no one can inquire on your credit or give you credit for 6 months.

i just did this 2 months ago when the university of texas' business school database got hacked. it was 100% free for me.

you CAN get credit or loans or whatever, the inquiring agent or business just has to confirm with you in writing and over the phone. you don't get frozen out of doing any sort of financial decisions...

i just bought a house with a fraud alert on my SS number.

that seems like a lot of trouble to go through just to save 10 bucks...

to the OP, if you want to check it regularly the best place is myfico.com and you can find 20% off discount codes if you do a google search.

open a credit card with providian. and then go to providianonline.com and start online banking, they give you a free credit report and tell you your credit score all for free and it doesnt count as an inquiry when you log on. i love my providian card...
