Where in LA/OC can we go racing?

For my friends birthday every year, she tries to pick a new adventure and this year she wants to do some sort of racing experience (not I my S2000). Does anyone know if there is a place in Los Angeles/Orange County area that has something like this? I'm kinda picturing the Malibu Grand Prix, but with real cars instead of go carts.

Does something like this exist?

I would love to know this too. There *used* to be a some autocrossing in OC but not anymore as far as I know. There's Irwindale oval race track, which seems like one of those tracks where you can pay to drive around it in your own car or training cars, etc.

By far the best thing I can recommend if you insist on the OC/LA area is to go to Dromo 1 which is near the Pond off the 57 freeway. It's 20 bux for 20 laps on some fast and fun go-karts. By fast I mean 50mph on the straightaway. By fun I mean the cars are powerful enough that you can spin the car if you stay on the gas too much in certain places. It's indoors in a big warehouse and is very well done. Here's the link: http://members.home.net/holladayj/dromo1/w..._to_dromo_1.htm

If you are looking for auto-X, there will be one next weekend (Mar 10-11) at El Toro MCAS. For details, check out http://www.solo2.com . Mar 10 will be a practice, so it will be ideal time to come out if it's your first time.

If you want something like Malibu Grand Prix, check out Speedzone in the City of Industry http://www.speedzone.com .

Thanks for the suggestions. I think we will check out speedzone. As for the Auto-X, as fun as it sounds I just don't think I trust myself enough to do something like that.

Try karts!

You can rent a 100cc "clutch" kart (no clutch, go figure) at Amago raceway on SR76 in northern San Diego county for about $100 for 30 laps, includes helmet, gloves and neck brace.

They have a great track, including two straights, hairpins and esses. You can get up to somewhere around 60 MPH at the end of the long straight!

This is even more intense than autocross!

When you're done, try a run up to Palomar Mountain before you head home.
