Default Where to register a domain name with a period?

I've been trying to find a site that can register a domain name that contains a period in it - everything I've found (or has been suggested to me) uses dashes, underscores, and what not.......no periods though

I just want something simple: http://product.companyname.com - the period between "product" and "companyname" is the only thing a bunch of these registry sites won't let me get.

My provider can do it for me, but it would require changing things around and assuming a higher monthly fee

I just want a one time fee.

Thanks in advance for any help

get the companyname.com domain... product with a dot before that would just be a index, or a link (cant remember actual terminology)
Like if you are on a site wheree you need to be a member (other than a forum) then it may go to..... members.website.com instead of www.website.com
Does that make sense.

Your not registering text.name.com your registering www.name.com and text.name.com is something you write later. (Just like www.name.com/pr0n/index)

As stated you cant buy these domains because they are a subset of the original domain (subdomain). You basically need to own the domain itself then you can create the subdomain which is typically easy to remember because it is so similar to the actual URL.

I prefer to just use subfolders, like www.s2ki.com/forums.
