Wherein lies the human soul?

I'm not one who believes in a "soul", at least not in the religious sense.

"I" go where my brain goes because it is what is in my brain (memories, thought patterns, view of the world outside) that determines "self".

Hi Nachtmeister, I haven't seen 'ghost in the shell' yet, I'll get around to it soon. I used to be really into Anime about 8 years ago, but have drifted away quite abit since. (Bubblegum Crisis is one of my favorites)
Thank you for the input so far everyone... I guess questions like these are incredibly hard to phrase, and I by no means got close to asking it clearly and concisely. I was trying to avoid religion, and my mention of 'soul' was intended to be in a generic sense. I really meant something more along the lines of our humanity, and didn't give it enough thought when i phrased it. My apologies.
So toss those implications regarding our 'soul' out the window. This is more about we as humans.
And, I meant this question to involve synthetic duplication, not organic, because organic cloning is an issue I want to avoid. Much to complicated and controversial presently.
Some people have strong feelings regarding Breast Implants. What about nose implants and hair implants? These are the beginnings of synthetic remodelling. No moral issues presently, just personal ones. What if your sinificant other became more and more synthetic to prolong his/her life or in the name of vanity. Would you still love him/her the same? In the case of your mother? Your friends? We have different emotional attachments with each... at what point do we draw the line?

Very well said.
What a different world we would live in if others could see it this way.
Happy Holidays!
Correct me if i'm wrong but aren't humans the only living things on this earth that are aware/conscious of it's own existence? Everything else lives purely off of instinct.
If we know that we are existant now, how will we know when we are non-existant? Shouldn't there be some sort of "spirpt" or "soul" that defines us?

...the appropriate one is "vitally challenged." Alternatively, one may use "decompositionally advantaged."
