Who do you think deserved to win Mr. Olympia?
Genetics does play a big part in it because of natural testosterone levels etc but diet plays an enormous part as well. These guys need to eat lots and lots to bulk up and then cut right down before a show so they are all cut up. There is also blood doping which involves removing blood months before a show to make the body generate more and then they inject the blood back in before the show to give more size etc.
I go to the gym every week day because I enjoy it. I use pretty good protein and Im getting good results (IMO
) but if I was to eat right I'd be getting much better growth and strength. You need to get a good workout program and a good diet and then the key is just consistency and time but you'd never get that "rediculously" big.
You can spot the guys at the gym that are on the juice pretty easy but there are some big guys that dont and they get a lot more respect and IMO look a lot better. You also need to consider what juice does to your skin and worst of all your heart. Also it will cause your muscles to grow a lot quicker than your tendons so if you dont take it easy and smart you're going to get some serious injuries.

i have a friend who is working his ass off without any drugs and he is not making any progress.
1) Poor nutrition plan (if he doesn't keep a food journal and doesn't eat consistently and with enough calories and protein, he'll never make gains).
2) Poor training program (he may train every day, but it doesn't mean it's productive. He could be doing too much, or he may actually be doing too little).
3) Poor lifestyle choices (he could workout and eat right all he wants, but if he drinks, smokes, uses drugs, stays out and parties late many nights of the week, is under a lot of stress from work or school, has genetic limitations or injuries, he'll never gain).
You don't need steroids to make good gains. To be a Mr. Olympia or pro bodybuilder, you need great genetics, consistent training and diet over many years, and plenty of drugs to put it all together. But most people have no desire to look like that. Thus, for most people (even those who are "hardgainers") can make good gains. But you have to have a great plan, great nutrition and consistency.
is that sergio olivia on the right? he has to be close to 50 years old now.??? he was around back in the last 80's....
Not sure what all enhancements Ronnie coleman takes, but he is just too big. These guys make Arnold look like a pussy even at his peak. Arnold took the best roid's they had back then.....

I'll be the first to laud natural bodybuilding as being a good thing but I'll draw the line at calling it a 'sport'. If it's a sport, it's a sport of deception.
The trouble to some degree with bodybuilding is that for a lot of people it becomes an obsession that leads to an unbalanced and self-indulgent lifestyle. Steroids further complicate this because they restrict what you can and can't do socially to a large degree (alcohol, diet etc).
Further compounding it is the absolute BS published in bodybuilding magazines that gives impressionable newbies the idea that these guys are achieving these gains from the latest and greatest 'supplement' and exercise routine or that they only ever take tiny doses of steroids.
Ten or so years ago I had the opportunity to ask Serge Nubret if he had ever done steriods. His reply was 'once.... in 1969'. Yeah right. Although he may have taken a lot less than today's bodybuilders I don't believe this for a minute.
I'm sorry but when I look at a non-natural bodybuilder I'm inclined to think 'there is an unbalanced individual'.
I still go to the gym 3 days a week and love it but I no longer harbour any illusions about the 'sport'.

You actually asked him that Muz! How did he take it?Serge always had fantastic symmetry IMO even if he wasn't the biggest and freakiest.
He also had his gorgeous wife with him who is a holder of some fairly prestigous women's titles if I recall.
And actually... it wasn't ten years ago. It was more like 15 years ago.
Question: What are the doping policies of Pro Bodybuilding? No testing? Random testing? Testing before each major comp? Or is it basically accepted nowadays? (Well, accepted in the dark)
