Thanks I love "being at the movies with the best seat in the theater" at home. Calibrated DILA G11U projector about $8000, HTPC about $2000, Denon AVA-5600THX receiver about $2800, 4 Klipsch KLF-30 and KLF-C7 Legend speakers about $4000. And lots of other assorted stuff.

I actuall work in the digital video and broadcast industry. The funny thing is, I worked with a lot of people in this industry hat don't own a TV. What's up with that!!! You're in the TV business, and you don't own one. Never did understand that. As for myself, I just own one TV and I have cable. I can't put up a satellite dish in my complex. I used to have free DIRECTV, since I used to work for them, but I could never take advantage of it.

I grew up in a large family that didn't have a lot of money. Although we had a TV, when it broke (they used to do that more often) my father was not in a hurry to get it fixed.. once it stayed broken for over a year. As a result I don't watch television regularly and cannot relate to childhood memories of TV shows that many of my peers do. As an adult many years later I bought my parents their first color TV. Now in their 80's my father watches too much TV, but my mother still doesn't, she reads at least two books a week.

I still remember old-time radio with it's fifteen-minute serials and soap operas. I also remember long road trips with shows like the "Green Lantern" and "the Shadow". These remained popular until top-40 radio became popular in the late fifties. When TV came along we had great old westerns like "The lone Ranger", "Gun Smoke", etal. These shows had been on the radio for years, and became popular on TV as well. I think the absence of TV had a lot to do with the baby-boom as well.

I remember baseball on the radio, as well. My dad wasn't a fan, but my uncle sure was. When we'd go for a visit, I can still remember walking by his room on hot summer evenings, seeing only the glow of the radio dial and the ember of his cigarette as he lay in bed listening to the action. Poor bastard, the cigs eventually killed him.
