Default Who else is insensitive of Gustav's wrath?

So who's bringing popcorn as Gustav rips apart New Orleans and parts of the South?

Edited to add a link and pics.

I don't exactly enjoy watching the destruction of entire cities, but I've never been to New Orleans. I don't really know what there is left to destroy. Katrina pretty much f'd the place up.

I am more concerned with nuclear holocaust than a hurricane.

Being from the coast, I'm not really ready to watch New Orleans get so-called "Destroyed", partly because I highly doubt this Hurricane will do much to it. Yes, New Orleans is in the Northeast quadrant, which is the msot dangerous in a Hurricane, yet I just have this feeling that this hurricane won't be near the devastation as Katrina was.

Also, to your cute, witty photo of a family in the raft. New Orleans wasn't flooded on 8/29. After the waters receded from Lake Ponchatrain and the River was when it bottlenecked and broke the levees a day or two later.

One thing that I've failed to figure out is that we all come to these forums with a common, shared interest, however, when we get here it seems that a few still like to bash and make fun of others over something stupid. Katrina, and hurricanes in general, aren't something to really joke around with and I'm willing to bet you're not even half as bold compared to a lot, and myself, who rode out the storm.

Ending, this storm won't be bad, but still should raise concern to people in the immediate area and thankfully persuaded them to evacuate.

+1

Sometimes it just seems crazy when your home is torn up by a storm, one that is most likely to hit again only a year or two later, and do it all again, to go back and rebuild.

That's like falling while riding your bike when the chain is broke, then getting back up on it again when the chain is still busted.

I love my home town, but if it faced the same doom that NO seems to, Id be more than ready to pack up and find a new place. Id also use an opportunity like Katrina, where the government paid me some cash, to take that cash and move on. I respect peoples attachments to home, just don't think I personally could continue to face such wrath every year.

That's not to say all coastal living is doomed, but New Orleans for example is geographically ####ed. Not only is it off the coast, but its BELOW sea level. Talking about an equation for devastation and ruin. And its most likely going to get worse, as human interference has prevented the natural depositing of sediments that in the past have replenished the soil lost from subsidence.

Straight out of wiki....

Like i told the wife... just wait, in a few days more people will be suing the government again because they were too stupid to leave. I almost hope it blows the city off the map in hopes they move it to a decent location, but alas, some moron will build there again thinking it won't happen again. Lots of stupid people out there.

I am bringing my popcorn.

FWIW, I lived in Galveston Texas for eight years and rode through a couple storms.
