Who else is insensitive of Gustav's wrath?

1) This storm isn't supposed to, as of this moment, generate anything like Katrina. That storm had a 25' storm surge hitting New Orleans. This once is supposed to be 4-8' at the moment.

2) The government is WAY over preparing just to offset anything that happened last time.

3) Why is there a major US city in a soup bowl right next to a coast, and why did people go back?!

I recall Nagin telling everyone that "This is going to be the storm of the century." He said that 2 years too late!

NO MAY be overpreparing for this storm but it's better to be overprepared than underprepared like 2 years ago. Nonetheless, a Cat 2 storm is nothing to sneeze at either.

Im 100 miles NE of New Orleans, 70 miles N of Gulfport. Just getting rain here. Katrina will make Gustav look like a cakewalk. With Katrina
we had hurricane force winds for over 7 hrs.

I was never in favor of rebuilding flood-prone areas. Seems the height of stupidity to me. I felt bad for relocated folks and helped my wife assist them (she works in Los Angeles social services). But I have less than zero sympathy for people still in the region.

New Orleans avoids a direct hit from a weakened Hurricane Gustav.

New Orleans is safe! While the 100,000 who chose to stay are laughing at the 2 million who fled.

One thing that I've failed to figure out is that we all come to these forums with a common, shared interest, however, when we get here it seems that a few still like to bash and make fun of others over something stupid. Katrina, and hurricanes in general, aren't something to really joke around with and I'm willing to bet you're not even half as bold compared to a lot, and myself, who rode out the storm.
I applaud at your analytical skills that I'm not "half as bold compared to a lot" with my offense topic. You are right and I agree that I'm not as bold compared to those who "who rode out the storm."

But I'm slightly taken apart that you threw yourself in there,
I'm willing to bet you're not even half as bold compared to a lot, and myself...
That I cannot agree with

a major hurricane evacuation route. It was bumper to bumper for over
80 miles yesterday.
