That's got to be one of the weirdest posts I've seen on here in a long time.

what is the difference between judaism (spelling) and jewish as in race?
ie jewish as in race vs religion?
sorry if this sounds ignorant but i am not religious at all and a jewish friend of mine couldn't really explain it properly (he wasn't a practising jew).

 

depends on how you define "race."

 

short answer: You are Jewish if you were converted or had a Jewish birth mother, wether or not you practice the religion. Being a part of the Jewish Nation is a yes or no answer, you either are or are not. Practicing the religion is quite a different thing, it is a set of values that should be followed to live your life to its full potential, and that is filled with grey areas.

 

yeah i'm still confused

 

many will say there's no such thing as a Jewish Race in a way similar to white, black, asian, indian, etc.

u can convert and then stop practicing...but that does not retroactively null your conversion. It's like if you enroll in college but don't go to class...you're still technically a college student.
