Default Who knows Chicago?

For Thanksgiving I'm making jerk turkey cutlets with habanero-cranberry salsa, a recipe which comes from Heaven on Seven in Chicago.

Has anyone here been to Heaven on Seven? If so, what's your opinion? Favorite dish? Atmosphere? Whatever?

I'm just curious, and this seems like a good place to find folks from the windy city.

Thanks!

Magician,

You asked for it...so here goes! My mom is full blooded Cajun from Lafayette, LA. She KNOWS Cajun food and comes from a long line of excellent Cajun conoisseur types. I grew up with a lot of Cajun food and still very much love it.

That said, even though Heaven on Seven, a restaurant which I have been to 5-6 times is just NOT Cajun. It seems that it's a stylized version of something that may have been Cajun once upon a time, but it's just not Cajun any longer. My brother and I went there once and while the food was only marginally good, quality was OK...we both agreed that it's not anything close to what authentic Cajun food is and that seems to be contrary to what they positioned themselves as when they started the restaurant.

The dish that you mentioned, while I'm sure it's good, isn't Cajun. Now, unless Heaven on Seven has changed their marketing, didn't they make it out to be like they were Cajun or am I not remembering that correctly? But, sad to say, that Cajun, it's not...

The quality, though, is OK...nothing spectaular like you heard all the reviews and things when it started. I have a newly opened H on S within walking distance of my house, but I would pick many many other restaurants before that one.

BTW...how was the jerk turkey?!

As the name suggests, jerk turkey is more Carribbean (Jamaican?) than Cajun. I'd simply heard that the restaurant had a Cajun slant to it.

This is the second year I've made the cutlets and they're great. I'll post the recipe if you'd like; they're easy to make.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

PS Any good Cajun recipes? My wife and I love to cook.

I didn't consider your comments harsh. I asked for opinions and that's what I wanted. I've never been to H on S (I've never really been to Chicago, only to land in O'Hare) so I had no expectations at all.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Maybe there are other opinions out there. Well?
