Who tf is Paul Mccartney. ldgaf.
I don't see anything wrong with this. I would have had the same exact response when I was 16. Just because he was a "legend" in some other era of time, why the f@#k should every kid have to know about it? Has he cured cancer or something? No, he sung in some shitty pop band in the 60s.
Should I be pissed that some 15 year old punk doesn't know who Leadbelly is? Nope. I don't expect him to listen to every single popular band/musician that ever came out and expect to care, especially if the music isn't interesting to them at all.
One of my favorite bands is KMFDM. I'm sure Raptor has no clue who they are, and I simply do not care.

you may not appreciate his "old" music but the Beatles are a cultural icon for the past 50 years. Anyone who lives in Europe or North America should know who he is.
I don't listen to Jay Z but I know who he is b/c he's a cultural icon (whether you think he is good or bad, he's still an icon).
my mother doesn't watch Bball but she knows who Michael Jordan is.

Even then, while Kein Mehrheit Fuer Die Mitlied was good, I think Einsteurzende Neubauten way better down that vein. Even then, they should've just given up after En Esch, but that's my freakin' opinion. Whither too Nitzer Ebb?
None of the pre-Industrial on through the Industrial movement, save Reznor's work, has had anywhere near the reach of The Beatles. You can't refute phenomenology as it's happening, despite your best efforts.
If you want to put The Beatles in some context where your argument has merit, go study the garage movement in Seattle in the early '60's, and then Vanilla Fudge if you want to grind '70's rock wankers down to a nub. Once you've done that, you might sound like you're speaking with a greater sense of passion and appreciation, rather than just simple ignorance.

The fact that you like listening to a band, any band, is almost entirely due to the popularity of The Beatles.
It's a difference between singers, singing groups, and bands (and the songwriters in a building). The Beatles were one of the first to be an integrated unit (and have very sizable popularity). To that end, they were artists who wrote their own songs and performed them. Previous to that, it was a real novelty.
