Honestly, any person that is willing to put their lives second to others (read: Firefighters, Police, EMTs and EMRs, Volunteer Forest FFs, MRS, etc)

Plus that cross country skier from Kenya that competed in the 50k ski in Nagano. He finished dead last, 30 minutes behind the 2nd last person, he was barely able to stand after his ski, but he crossed the line smiling, and the guy that won the race was there to give him a hug. That guy from Kenya is my hero because he symbolised the true olympic spirit... it's not wether you win or lose, it's that you had fun during the journey.

hmm...

my parents (of course)
my law professor Dr. Michael Magasin (the best attorney in the world, i'm sure a few SoCal members can agree )
Bill Clinton - for showing everyone that even the leader of the free world has his weakness for BJs
GW Bush - for showing everyone that even a C average student can become the leader of the free world
Jing Yong and Ni Kuang - two of the best Chinese fiction writers EVER. If you think Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon was good, you should see some of the movies based on Jing Yong's writings. It is said that Jing Yong (his real name is Cha Liang Yong) is the MOST recognized author in the world (based on sheer numbers of the Chinese population )
Tom Clancy - for being the best contemporary English fiction writer.
Ken Follett - for writing one of my favorite "Pillars of the Earth"
James Clavell - for being the best English historical fiction writer (on the subject of Asia, he got as close as a gaijin can get)
Gene Roddenberry - no need to introduce the creator of Star Trek
Bill Gates - for creating millions of jobs for people like me to fix DOS and now Windows problems, God forbids when he comes out with an OS that won't crash and is bug free.
Hugh Heffner - for having the most babes
Emperor Kang Xi of the Ching Dynasty - for being probably the best emperor in the 5000 years of Chinese history. Too bad his descendants were pretty useless.
Current commie Chinese big kahuna, Jiang Zeming - for all the negative things I have to say about the reds, I admire this nose picking bad-ass dude for surviving the most dangerous and sophisticated battleground of back-stabbing, power-struggling, deal-brokering group - the Chinese Politburo.

Don't think this was mentioned. I would say the usual:

parents
fire fighters/police
..... but everyone forgot..

Mr. Honda himself... started with nothing and now his legacy is what brings us together

Mingster! What a list! Love it!

I have been thinking about this topic over the last few days, and:

William Buroughs - probably (arguably) a writter with the biggest single influence on our current culture
Pierre Elliot Trudeau - a great Canadian prime minister, I hated him when he was in power, but a great politician and political figure in the anals of Canadian political history.
Sam Walton - being the good capitalist that I am, an admirable figure to me, built a retail chain that is *kicking the shit* out of most of the competition in the retail market. Their American payroll, last I heard, is around 900,000 people!

It has come to my attention that some people do not know what MRS is, so I will clarify.

MRS is something in Canada and the British Isles called "Mountain Rescue Specialists" who literally take incredible risks to save lives... adrenaline junkies to the max. Any time you hear of a mountain rescue, an MRS or two were involved at great risk to themselves. Incredible people with incredible skill.
