why do people create their own financial misery?
Without getting into great details, how do people who make minimal $ but spend like kings ever expect to get anywhere? Is the idea to just not care? to hope that someone will bail them out eventually?
I cannot imagine having $0.00 in my savings and having credit card debt and barely making enough $ to make the minimum payments on everything or my rent / mortgage........ No plans for retirment at all. I guess they think SS will take care of them?
Seems like almost everyone i work with and am related to is in this boat....

People with no hope only live for today. . . moreover, many people have little regard for others, and so they behave as if running themselves into debt won't affect anybody else. . .
. . . on the flip side, I suppose it's beneficial to those in the collections business.

Who knows? Maybe to impress or to keep up with the Jones. Maybe some don't care and like living paycheck to paycheck. Some just live for today and don't realize there is a tomorrow.
I used to be this way about 10 years ago. In many ways, I still am. I still spend a shit load of money on stupid crap, like bluetooth headsets (damn you Scot, you BT hater), $425 Oakleys and furniture from Design within Reach but unlike 10 years ago, I now have significantly more income at my disposal to pay my bills, sustain my crazy spending habits and put some away in my savings and 401K for a rainy day and retirement.

I'm with you, I hate the thought to living above my means.
I just sold my home of 10 years IN A DAY and walked away with $280K in profit. Both cars are paid for so I HAVE NO DEBT AT ALL.
$350K in cash, $250K in stocks, no debt, It

a better question might be why some people insist on obsessing over what other people do.

Wow that's a nice chunk of change.
No debt here, though i am financing my car.
Concentrating on saving up for my second condo right now.

I've entertained the thought of a used 360 or GT3, but I'll probably just park it bonds until real estate sorts itself out.
The moral is to save and invest.
