a better question might be why some people insist on obsessing over what other people do.
A better question is why some people want to be slumloards

Honestly, I don't think there's a huge problem with taking $4-5K out in student loans every year while in school IF you know you're going for a good degree.

For example, I'm going to leave pharmacy school with about $29K in debt but will start off making about $90,000-$100,000K per year. Now was it worth acquiring $29K in debt (I worked full time while in school for first 4 years) to actually enjoy life and have a couple of nice things while in college?

Absolutely!! Don't be stupid with your money and you will be fine.

good luck with that. If we all made what we were told we'd make out of school, well, I'll leave that as an exercise for the reader.

I live way below my means because I can't stand debt.

Here's the rule I live by.

1. If I can't afford to pay cash (aside from houses), I can't afford it.

This nation is in a real crisis and i see it all aorund me with family members that should know better, some of these folks have advanced degrees. When you make $36k a year as a single woman, you can't do all your clothes shopping at Banana Republic, live in a $990 a month apartment, drive a 04 Toyota Celica with rolled over 5 year lease payments, and travel out of the country 3-4 times a year. We found out through a friend of hers that she has over $35k in credit card debt. How does she sleep at night?

Without getting into great details, how do people who make minimal $ but spend like kings ever expect to get anywhere? Is the idea to just not care? to hope that someone will bail them out eventually?

I cannot imagine having $0.00 in my savings and having credit card debt and barely making enough $ to make the minimum payments on everything or my rent / mortgage........ No plans for retirment at all. I guess they think SS will take care of them?

Seems like almost everyone i work with and am related to is in this boat....
You have far too much money to ever understand such things. Go drive your NSX.

I really don't understand the point you're trying to make with this thread. You've aquired some nice things and that's great. However, the view from your soap box must be a bit cloudy, as the vast majority of the population is no where near where I assume you are financially. Congratulations. Is that what you're looking for? OBVIOUSLY they do not have the option to put money away or invest it in flipping homes.

You have no idea what their individual circumstances or motivations are and I don't really know why you care. As long as they are not on welfare or recieving any government assistance, they can do what they please.

It appears you are more than 10 years older than I am, so I'm not overly concerned with comparing possesions, yet your post sort of hit me the wrong way. Care to elaborate or clarify?
