Default Why do people with $ make themselves sound Poor?

People are funny. Some people with negative $ play it off like they are made out of $. then people who have $$$$$$$ play it off like they can barely afford toothpaste.

Why can't people with decent $ just spend some of it and enjoy it instead of bitching about everything? Old people!!!

I have a 65 year old co-worker who has to have $$$$$$$$. She would like to move, since her husband died. They inherited the house they live in so she has never had a mortgage payment. She drives a 4 year old Buick so there are no payments there and their annual household income was over $100k until he died. She must either have a mattress full of cash or a hell of a balance at some financial institution.

She is now bitching about how she doesn't want to spend any more than $170k for a house....

She should just go buy / build a house that is exactly what she is lookiing for even if it costs $50-100k more than she wants to spend. Spoil herself for the last 5-10-20 years that she is alive!!!! She must think the $ is going to buy her a spot in the sky or something???

O ya.....

I have relatives in this same sort of boat. House has been paid off for 15+ years, drive old yucky cars, never vacation, but bring in over $60k a year for the past XXXXXX years. They won't spend their $. they are 70 years old. WTF are they saving it for?

They literly are "the millionaire next door" kind of people. They won't pick up a check at dinner to save their lives.

I have no idea what they think they are going to do with the $. I guess the Estate will split it up when they die! doh!

Maybe their outlook on money is why they ultimately have it or not?

These people have probably spent 50 years saving up their money. When you make a habit for 50 years, it's almost impossible to break. Being stingy and saving their money is a habit. Just like smoking.

that could be a good answer! I put them on the spot for a $300 dinner one time and my god...the look on their faces.... you would have thought i was ready to slit their throats..... so I paid... ****heads.... they will die with $,$$$,$$$ in the bank to be split up by all the relatives... smart....

I don't know why, but I like the habit theory. However, you can't take it with you so might as well enjoy it.

Dunno where you guys live, but here, $60k a year, or a $100k a year household income allows an average lifestyle, it's nowhere near being wealthy.

I have many clients like this. They have a shitload of money and hate to spend it. They drive old cars, wear shitty clothes, grind me down in price, make me buy lunch, take their sweet time paying my invoices, and own huge assemblages of commercial and industrial property.

Live Rich Die Poor

i think its all about sense of financial security, to have money even if all things go wrong. they would pretend money isnt there(even though they know they have money) so that they wouldnt spend it on luxury items or things that arent particularly a necesity.
