Why do people "talk crap"? especially when they have nothing to back it up?

Default Why do people "talk crap"? especially when they have nothing to back it up?

I work with a guy who is always talking crap, but I am not sure why (does it make him feel good....up until I beat him maybe??).

He claimed he would beat me at the road course.... i eventually talked him into going and then i beat him by over 10 seconds per lap.....but even to this day he just put that out of his mind....then talks like he is an experienced track guy (he only went that one time and sucked).

He has a CLK55 and claims he can out drag race me..... My mustang has 500hp... and I have a 12.4 second time slip to prove it is fast (and that was on stock shitty tires... i have drag radials now)... but he keeps talking crap in front of other people here at work...... his car is fast, but not even close....

Now he thinks he could run faster than me. He is 55 years old, 5' 8" and probably weighs 235lbs.... I am 34, 5'11" and 176lbs....and i work out...... He mentioned a 10k.......I could just walk along next to him until the last 100 yards, then sprint away..

I don't talk smack unless I can back it up..... I wouldn't be sitting in my evolution telling a guy in a enzo that my car is faster!

OwneD

I used to run track (400, 600, 800, Mile) and X-country in High School and if you knew you could out sprint a person, you would do this as much as possible (saves energy for the next race).

I remember people doing it, or at least thinking they could do it and there would be a third sleeper in the race! When the guy in second made his move, the guy in third would too, and when that went down, it was pure shaming.

We used to call it "sitting on the guy."
Coach would say, "this guys good, but not a sprinter, just sit on him until the last 200 yards"

It hilarious to watch a race where there's 2 guys within a meter of each other and the pack is about 10 meters behind. You can see it coming and every one but the guy in the lead knows it's coming,..... or does he?

He's an idiot... but I could beat you on a road course with one arm and one leg tied behind my back. My s2000 with intake and exhaust puts out at least 330 whp and the gtech says i did a 1/4 in 12.2 once (when the batteries were on the fritz).. You don't stand a chance in that Ford POS. I'd also give you a 4 minute head start on a 10k and can out bench you by at least 200lbs.

Could also be jealousy, low self esteem. Men can be just as catty as women sometimes.

I know it's easier said than done, but just try to ignore it and blow it off.

Good answers! I have no idea what it is (small crank may be it. ) ....but right before lunch I told him to pick any race.... and i will race him.... it could be a 5k or a half marathon for all I care...... He will most likely just ignore my offer... kind of like he did with the drag racing.. I have offered several times to meet him on the street or at the track.....

it is funny...when we have some visitors (like auditors)... he will say at lunch "SO, WHEN ARE WE GOING TO THE TRACK AGAIN?"... as if he even has any desire...... but it makes him look COOL in his mind... blaa...

O well..... he is the guy that does my review, so i can't piss him off too much....but luckily he doesn't have any idea how to do my job...so they would at least need to find someone who does before I get fired..

"YOUR FIRED" ahahaha

Sounds like he's trying to fit in and be "one of the guys." Maybe being a little older makes him uncomfortable and he thinks he needs to compete.

Or maybe he's just a nut.

he recently got a divorce... for no apparent reason either... they had been married 30+ years.... but now he has a new woman...who is not much better than his wife was....but.... change is good...

he also wanted new wheels for his mercedes, so I pointed him towards some HRE's, which he got... so he spent $4500 on tires and wheels..... so maybe he is trying to relive his youth.... he better get used to losing though.

Actually... I think he has just lost his mind..... I know my limitations..... he should know his.... i think he may also be alittle jealous that i have a bunch of rental houses and own a mortgage broker company.....he tried to open a subway store, but it fell through.

just feel pity on the guy and be a better person by ignoring him. when he bullshits, just nod and pat him on the back. he isn't hurting anyone with his dummy talk after all. it sounds like you are doing well in life Scot, don't let your time be wasted even thinking about this charlatan. have a good day.
