why do we allow old people to drive?

When you realise the average age of our state and national lawmakers is probably well above sixty and most of them drive, you will also realise that nothing wll ever be done to ban the elderly from driving short of them losing their license for traffic infractions.
That's a good point.

First off old people are responsible for more accidents/deaths then teenage drivers for **** sake.
It's not only elderly drivers that present a hazard. Why hand-held cell phone use while driving hasn't been outlawed in every state is a damn shame, and just plain stupid. US is really behind on this one.
I think they should periodically assess a drivers capable say every 10-12 years, however not all old people suck at driving....my grandfather who is almost 79 picked up a 2006 Mustang GT ,lets it lose all the time, always drives 5-10mph over the speed limit, and is easily a more capable driver than 90% of the people on the road.
I believe ALL drivers should be re-assessed biannually. This would include a written test, and road test. Pain in the a$$ - perhaps. But, it would create many jobs nationally, and weed out a lot of people that should be taking public transportation instead of driving.

Some old people are extremely dangerous. Some still drive ok. What can you do? I too face it daily.

I'd be just as worried, if not more, about elderly drivers on the road when it comes to losing my life.
