Not a smoker. Can't stand the smell of the stuff.

I am interested in hearing the reasons though.

Why do people gamble?

Why do people do drugs?

Why do people engage in S & M acts?

Why do people keep on logging on to s2ki.com??

Answer lies somewhere around there.

I can only admit to having participated in some of these. But it was all good!

not really.
gambles, drugs and sex or whatnot... sure you can say "hey, it's just a part of
my life", but we can start a whole new topic asking why people do each of them.

i wanted to know a "particular" reason why do people smoke.

if you just like the taste, or the "feeling" of it, just say "i like it!"
or if you are addicted, say, "i can't quit!"

... so, why do you guys smoke?

theres 2 basic kinds of smokers I think, one is the kind who needs it, for the chemical part... (excuse my spelling.. I spent half of my elementary years facing the wall.. I was what they call a hyper-child.. ) the second kind is a habit smoker. just like one which bites their nails... they don't need it.. but it has become a regular thing for them..... anybody who smokes on and off are ususally the habit smoker, they do it out of boredom... for sociel events... or.. just to look cool..? anyways, thats my idea why people smoke.

say whatever you want, but there is no excuse for doing something so stupid. I personally don't care what people do in the privacy of their own homes, but when i am in an environment where there is smoke in the air, it really bothers me. I just hope i live to see the day when smoking is banned in public all together....unless the second hand smoke inhalation doesn't kill me first.

Non smokers have no idea, and for me to try and explain to you why I smoke, would never convince you anyway.

If you are really curious, I'll tell you how it started for me.
My buisness partner smoked, and we were coming back from a meeting when I was rear ended..I was very pissed.

He said here, have a smoke it will calm you down. Well, it was like inhaling heaven at the time.. from there I wanted that feeling again, and would grab a smoke from him once in a while.

It wasn;t long after that I bought my first pack. But I only smoked at work..not before noon, not when I got home..over a long period of time I started smoking more and more..to the point now today where I smoke a little over a pack ( 25-30 ) a day.

I am addicted to it..I tried to quit once in my life, I felt terrible. My attitude sucked, I treated people like shit, and I was unhappy.

So I started again.

Cigerattes are one of the most addictive substances in the world. and you have no chance of quitting if even the slightest part of you does not want to give it up.

After a large meal, I can honestly say nothing is better the a smoke..

But in all this, I dont say anything to justify myself, only if it helps your curiosity.

as for the non smokers, who have the holier then thou attitudes towards smokers..it makes me laugh. You think the world belongs to the non smokers? bullshit..I have just as much right to smoke in a park as the guy with the dog taking a shit on the ground.

and with the amount of money I spend on smokes, and the millions of others, the tax revenue that is generated is staggering..I dont hear anyone saying Raise my TAXES!!! out law cigarettes!!

I guess I'm a little sensitve on this subject, that look i get once in a while, like I have the ing plague or something...I have no trouble telling someone what I think when I hear thier little comments

and I could ramble on , so...I think I'll stop now

I've smoked 36 cigarettes in my life (yes, I've kept count.) They were mostly from several years ago when I dated a girl who smoked. Nearly all of them were cloves - I really dig the smell and taste of them - and it was almost always while we were at a club. Every once in a while when I'm out drinking I think a clove would be nice, but I never carry any with me so I don't worry about it. I've never had an urge to smoke anywhere else. I hate the smell of regular cigarette smoke. I've also never understood the calming effect smokers claim - cigarettes have always made me feel jittery and hyper.

Well ok, obviously my humour didn't work - it never seems to nowadays ever since I got started on my thesis.

Anyway, it has just been a while since I have been asked the question about why people smoke. Something I used to hear a lot in high school, but non-smokers don't really care why we smoke. It's the whole 'it's not good for you so why spend so much money and time doing something so idiotic?' attitude that normally pisses me off, and I try to steer away from answering them. Obviously didn't work.

I don't smoke much, by usual smoker's standards - 10 a day maximum. I have been smoking since I was 16. At first it was out of curiosity, (people who say it was peer pressure - yea, right) then it was because well, I started studying full on.

For me, with every cigarette I have during researching (or anything that requires a higher level of concentration), there is a beginning and an end. It makes me feel like I've had an hour break when I only had 10 minutes. I would think about what I have done in the last two hours and plan for the next two, and so on. There isn't as much danger of 'wasting time' if you will, by going down to a cafe down the road for a 30 minute break. It might be a different story if I worked at a place where I do 9-5 and walk out (might).

Like Mindcore, I simply become downright nasty when I give up smoking. It usually means I have to spend a lot of money buying drinks to all the people who get mad at me - which of course means I would smoke a lot more.

Oh, and it does taste good with a cold beer after sex, or gambling, doing drugs, etc My humour still probably won't work. I need to get out more.

And the comment about the second hand smoking, etc
Do you live with a smoker?
Do you live with a smoker who smokes it in his or her room?
Do you live with a smoker who smokes it in your presence day in and day out?

Unless you chose the third, you are not going to die from it. The 'smell' of cigarettes does not kill you.
