Why does it seem so difficult to relocate?

Are you using a PA address on your resume? That could be the problem. Could you use a family member's local address instead? My wife and I relocated from DC to NC for her job in 2005. Took me a while to get into a new position.
I am using my PA address. I think they would look even less favorably if I used a family member's address in SD while my experience shows me currently working at a company outside of Philly.

like Nike says, "Just do it."

It's 78 degrees here today, I'm going to meet my fam at the beach in an hour. Were going to Santa Barbara this weekend to eat brunch overlooking the ocean. We'll drive up hwy 1 to get to SB.

You packed yet?

In my mind, yes. In reality, not yet.

I was thinking gopadres619 or DreDayLBC (for the LA market).
i was trying to stick to the b-ball thang...... gopadres619 would work.

Goodluck... hopefully something good happens...... getting the **** out of this shitty state would be hella nice...

Thanks. I've pretty much decided that I'm going to leave my job in the second week of April and go for it. Throw caution to the wind!

i tell you there is something about Philly that makes people want to go to San Diego. I live just outside Philly (Conshohocken to be specific) and i'm dying to move to San Diego. i love it out there. i can't convince the wife to go though.

my friend lives in south Philly and is planning the same thing you are. he's looking for a job now, but if he can't get one, him and his gf are just bailing out and moving to SD.

good luck with whatever happens. i'm jealous.

I say you've gotta be out there to really make it happen. Some jobs are of the nature that companies are willing to distance-interview, but in other cases (often for no other reason than it's just what they've decided) they only look locally.

Generally I wouldn't ever recommend to someone that they leave a job to go where they have no prospects unless it's what they decided on their own, so without a little risk you might not see the same rewards

Go to Cali!

I'll have to say it has to do with the crime, political disarray, pervading cynicism, and general asshole-ishness of the city. Philly is not without its charm but I've grown tired of it long ago.
