Why doesn't anyone use the search function?
I'm not pissed or being mean...i was wondering if they can notice that it's there...is there any way it can become more prominent. I'm trying to help out the new guys not make their lives harder.
One major brawback to using the search function is that people use terms differently and sometimes the subject line has nothing to do with the actual content. Searching for a particular word in the subject line is not too bad but if that doesn't do it and you have to search throughout the entire message, then you have a lot to wade through.
We went through this over on the Miataforum as well. The best thing to do is search first, if you can't find exactly what you are looking for, then ask and one of the helpful members will either answer or point you to the particular thread that will help.
It doesn't hurt to answer a question again, especially for a new owner. We don't want to have them think we are an unfriendly bunch now do we?

If I think I hear a buzz and someone else considers it a rattle what do I search for? I will search for buzz, because I am frickin sure my buzzing isn't a rattle. Too bad everyone else considers it a rattle and my search doesn't provide the results for which I am looking.
Minor problem, but us new guys are still learning about our cars. I thought that is what this place is all about. Maybe after a couple of more months and a few hundred posts, I will have a better understanding of why my buzz may very well be a rattle. But until then, I am relegated to asking. Besides, asking the question first does not give one the right to pass judgement on another member for not "finding" the answer.
Forums like this are about communication. We are a like-minded community that shares a passion. Discussion is how we get to know each other and strengthen the bond. It's obvious that friendships have been made and trust has been built through this forum. Why jeopardize future relationships by chastising the new people for asking questions that have been addressed?
